On December 15, Micron announced that it has begun shipping Micron 2550 NVMe solid-state drives (SSDs) for mainstream notebooks and desktops to PC OEM customers.
According to the official introduction, the Micron 2550 is the world's first client SSD using 200+ layers of NAND technology. The product is based on the PCIe 4.0 architecture and uses Micron's 232-layer NAND technology to enhance the heat dissipation architecture and low power consumption design. The Micron 2550 SSD improves application speed and responsiveness on mainstream PC platforms including gaming, consumer and business clients.
Compared with competing products, the 2550 SSD file transfer speed is 112% faster, office applications run 67% faster, mainstream games load 57% faster, and content creation applications run 78% faster. The sequential read performance and sequential write performance reach 5GB/s and 4GB/s respectively, which are 43% and 33% higher than the previous generation SSD.
