On October 13, TSMC, the leading wafer foundry company, held a law conference. The president of TSMC said that customers' demand for 3 nanometers exceeded TSMC's supply. Next year, it will be fully produced. The number of tape out products in the first two years of mass production of 3 nanometers family will also be more than twice that of 5 nanometers.
The demand for 3nm exceeded expectations, partly because of the persistent problem of machine delivery, and compared with the revenue contribution of the first year of 5nm mass production in 2020, it is estimated that the revenue contribution of the first year of 3nm mass production will be higher. However, due to the synchronous expansion of TSMC's revenue scale, it is estimated that the revenue contribution of 3nm next year will be about 4-6%.
Although the semiconductor industry continues to face inventory adjustment, many customers have participated in the 3nm and N3E manufacturing processes. He also disclosed that the development progress of N3E technology was ahead of schedule and mass production was expected in the second half of 2023.
TSMC is working closely with equipment suppliers to prepare more capacity for the 3nm process to support customers' strong demand in next year, 2024 and the future.
